Come May 1, and RM Auctions will offer a one-of-a-kind 1937 BMW 328 Mille Miglia ‘Buegelfalte.’ The beautiful car is considered as one of the most significant pre-war sports racing cars of the world. The car has already been very popular in the past. It took part in two of the most interesting car races such as; the 1937 Le Mans race and the 1938 Mille Miglia respectively.
Besides, the car also participated in many other exciting races. It is expected to fetch several million dollars. When it comes to sports cars, there are many buyers indeed. Wilhelm Kaiser, the BMW’s designer was the mastermind behind the beautiful and unique bodywork design. Like every name has its roots and history, the car is no exception in this light. Apparently, its nickname is derived from the creases on the top of the fenders, which is referred to as ‘Buegelfalte’ meaning ‘trouser crease.’
The name is rather apt. It is also interesting to note that the iconic bodywork of the car influenced many later designs like the much famed Jaguar XK120 Roadster. Interestingly, it is believed that the ‘Buegelfalte’ is the only special roadster, which was ever built at the BMW factory in Munich. Since the car is only a one-of-its-kind, even the BMW’s own museum houses only one copy of this special vehicle. RM Auctions will really be an exciting event with this one already added to its amazing Sporting Classics of Monaco sale.
