A gold plated antique car is the dream cum true for car lovers and collectors. When you see this 1920 Pierce Arrow 48 Coupe you start understanding the meaning of Midas touch. There have been gold plated cars earlier but this particular piece seems to be the first car to be blinged in this fashion. This one of a kind antique car powered by a T-head inline six-cylinder engine of 525 cubic inches with a 4-speed transmission on a 142 wheelbase chassis was originally made at Pierce-Arrows Buffalo New York factory for a mining tycoon Emerson Carey.
The car changed hands and it was a subsequent owner who gave it the golden makeover. It was a passionate work like art and turned the car into a piece of jewel. The fenders and the hood are finished in bright nickel but the other aluminum body panels have been meticulously plated in 23 carat gold. Even the engine and the chassis have been plated the same way. The spokes in the wheel are wooden and have been gold leafed. It looks like it was touched by King Midas and was turned into gold.
Its creator was justifiably proud of his creation and described it as the Hope Diamond of antique cars. But this gem of a car remained hidden from public view for a long time. It was briefly displayed in 1974 in the lobby of the Englewood (Colorado) Bank. Maybe that is one of the reasons why the antique car has been preserved in remarkable condition. The silk window curtains and upholstery are in excellent condition. The car has enough space for 3 passengers and comes with a price tag of $300,000.
