Maldives Now Boasts of The World’s First Underwater Spa

Maldives boasts of several underwater treats and to that long list is now added the world’s first underwater spa. The Huvafen Fushi luxury resort on the island state has opened the undersea spa and has recently expanded its list of offerings. The cutely names spa, ‘Lime’ has a new set of treatments christened Lose It, Tone It, Stress Buster and Cellulite Therapy. It took over 12 months to create this underwater retreat. Five inches thick solid cast resin has been used. This material provides a sturdy structure and gives a much clearer view than the cheaper laminated glasses. The resin also causes least possible disturbance to the surrounding ecosystem. For guests who aren’t too keen on getting a massage while looking at the marine life, there is a spa on the surface as well.

The other underwater attractions in Maldives include Ithaa, an undersea restaurant. It is located 15 metres under sea level and is surrounded by coral reefs. It is part of Conrad Maldives Rangali Island. It gives a stunning 270 degree view to the guests and the price range is around $120-$250. 14 guests can dine at a time. Then there is the underwater music club called Subsix, of the Niyama resort. It is located six metres below the water level. Here guests can drink like a fish, and be in their company too!

But the biggest underwater project is an underwater hotel, which is underway in Dubai. Called ‘Water Discus Hotel’,  the design for this hotel has been proposed by Deep Ocean Technology or DOT. The design looks likes a spaceship, with several discs. Certain rooms will be located over the sea level, while the rest will be underwater. There will be a total of 21 rooms under the sea. Considering Dubai has already created so many innovative projects like the palm shaped man made islands and Burj Khalifa, I won’t be surprised if they brought this idea to life too.
