The tech giants have become very active on the mobility front. Google has come up with a new concept and their Motorola Mobility division has filed an application with the US Patent and Trademark Office for what they are calling a ‘system and method’. In layman terms it is a mobile device microphone which is tattooed on your throat. The unusual feature of the device is that it boasts of a lie detector circuitry that captures galvanic skin response to detect skin resistance of a user to determine if he or she is speaking the truth or not. The patent application was filed on May 3, 2012 and has been published last week during the USPTO’s weekly patent-fest.
The Device Will be Effective in Noisy Environment
The tattoo is simply a device and is not permanent like the ornamental tattoos. The device is applied to a sticky substance on the skin. It is a communication device that connects to a mobile phone. It can transmit conversations without the use of hands. The filing for patent explains that this device is very effective in a noisy environment when it is difficult to carry on a clear conversation on a mobile phone. Since this microphone is plastered on your throat it can pick up your voice directly cancelling the noise around. The power to the device can be supplied through solar power, capacitive technology, nanotechnology, or electro-mechanical technology.
The Device Can be Programmed to Respond to Audio Sources
The ten page application details other functions of the device. It can be configured to transmit commands to your phone which can be very useful in a noisy environment or when your hands are full. The device can be programmed to respond to a variety of audio sources like your vocal intonation, a word or a set of words, a melody or a harmonic tone. The device in turn can send a variety of notifications or commands to a pre-determined mobile device. According to the patent application the lie detector feature will be optional in the form of a galvanic skin response detector. However, it is not very clear how useful this feature will be as the user does not need a lie detector device to know if he is telling the truth or not.
