Richard Branson to Serve the AirAsia Flight, Lucky Passenger to get $650,000 for Shaving his legs

Richard Branson is never short on gimmicks. And the wackier they are the better. But this one is wacky by his standards also. This is not a submarine or a Catamaran.  He will be flying Malaysian budget carrier AirAsia from London to Kuala Lumpur. Well there is nothing strange with that but the story takes an interesting turn here. Branson will personally serve this flight which leaves on May 1. A little strange, but what is so wacky about it? Well, Branson will serve the flight while wearing a female flight attendant’s uniform.

This is not the end of the story and the real wacky part comes after that. Through a bidding process, one lucky passenger on the flight will get the honor of shaving Branson’s legs. Since he will be serving AirAsia for the day as a flight attendant, he is supposed to follow the grooming standards of Airasia stewardess and shaving the leg is a part of that. The idea is to engage with the passengers, have some fun and raise more money for the charity.

And now for the background of the story please read on. AirAsia founder Tony Fernandes won a bet with Branson at the 2010 Bahrain Formula One Grand Prix. Both men own new Formula One racing teams both of them bet that his team would finish ahead of the other at Bahrain. The Malaysian airline mogul won and Branson became part of the charity flight. There will be 160 passengers on board who will pay 4,500 pounds for the London Kuala Lumpur flight. Street magician Sav the Deceptionist and a four-piece band featuring former Formula One team owner Eddie Jordan will entertain the passengers on the flight. The proceeds will go to beneficiaries chosen by the two airline moguls.
