‘All Access Pass’ To The Oscars For Online Audiences

By now the Oscars are over and most movie buffs must have caught the annual Hollywood extravaganza on TV. However, a select few managed to get an all-access pass to the 83rd Academy Awards. This time around, the Academy Awards had on offer a new interactive feature to appeal to online audiences around the world.

Starting from 3.30pm PT on 27 February, all visitors to Oscar.com were in for a special treat. They were given the opportunity to use multiple camera angles to view all the goings-on at the world’s most beloved awards function. So you could follow the celebs as they arrived and zoom in for a closer look at what they were wearing. As the evening wore on, online vistors could use the backstage “Thank You Cam” feature to see how the winners fielded questions from the press and more.

If that was not enough, fans could pay $4.99 to register for even more exclusive viewing. Under this scheme, users would gain access to “360 degree cams” with which they could follow the happenings along the red carpet, at the Kodak Theatre and later during the post-Awards celebration at the Governor’s Ball. “All Access” users were able to switch between any of 24 cameras placed throughout the venue.

Meanwhile, there was another offer for users of the iPad, iPhone and iPad touch – the Oscar Backstage Pass App, which was downloadable from the iTunes app store for $0.99.

This is perhaps the closest that regular people have come to experiencing the Oscars live. It certainly bodes well for the future, indicating that online viewer could soon have more brushes with the stars.
