We all dream of owning those iconic cars such as a Bugatti, Delahaye, Auburn, Pierce-Arrow, Mercedes, Bentley or a Rolls-Royce. But alas! The budget does not come even close to their actual prices. In the late 70s and early 80s, few companies tried to recreate cheaper versions of these models, but they unfortunately looked cheap as well and were far from being a close substitute to the actual models. But considering that the originals could only be bought for six, seven and sometimes even eight figures, consumers did look out for the cheaper options.
Something similar has been taken up by companies such as Delahaye USA. The NJ based company is making modern interpretations of those timeless models, to show what kind of designs those brilliant designers from the past would be making today. Their “Bella Figura” Bugnotti Coupe is inspired by the 1937 Bugatti Type 57S, and is supposed to be a tribute to Ettore Bugatti’s son, Jean. This company seems to have finally done justice to those classic designs, as is quite obvious from their amazing new models.
Right now the company has been showing off a 1/4-scale model of the project, but the full scale carbon fiber body will ready for the Retro Auto August 13-15, in Pebble Beach. Delahaye USA plans to offer a turnkey version of the coupe on a custom chassis with an alloy body for $450,000, while a clear-coated or painted carbon fiber version will be sold for around $250,000. Targa-style roof and drophead versions are also in the offing.
