The New Sailing Super Yacht Vertigo was Commissioned by Rupert Murdoch

The 220 feet sailing super yacht Vertigo was in the news recently because Leo DiCaprio was spotted in it when he was sailing around Australia. The yacht which is designed by Philippe Briand is made in New Zealand by Alloy. When reporters tried to find more about the new super yacht a lot of interesting information came out. The mystery owner of the new yacht is none other than the media tycoon Rupert Murdoch. He has been in the news himself because of the phone hacking indulged in by his publications. The scandal had strong political overtones because of his closeness to the powers that be in UK.

Rupert Murdoch is supposed to have spent millions of dollars on the exclusive vessel. It is not just the size of the yacht but its design and interiors that makes it a super yacht. Vertigo, the world’s seventh largest sailing yacht was commissioned by Murdoch. Christian Liaigre, the famed interior designer was roped in to do the interiors. Liaigre has worked for Murdoch earlier on other projects, including the interior of Rosehearty, Murdoch’s 184-feet Perini Navi sailing super yacht built in 2006.

Murdoch is not one of those rich guys who normally sell the old yacht to upgrade to new and bigger yacht. If Sydney Morning Herald’s report is to be believed Rupert Murdoch was spotted in Rosehearty off the Spanish island of Formentera where he is helping to celebrate his son Lachlan Murdoch’s 40th birthday. His new yacht Vertigo boasts of a massive owner’s suite and a convertible gym and five staterooms to house 12 guests. The yacht is manned by 11 crew members. His old yacht accommodates ten guests and is available for charter at $300,000 per week when Murdoch does not need it for his personal use.
