Luxury Resort In The Maldives Begins Daily Submarine Tours

It will take some time before the Richard Branson submarine is ready to carry passengers to the depth of the oceans. But there is no need to wait for the man  behind Virgin Atlantic to embark on his new business of selling underwater adventures. A luxury resort in the Maldives has beat Branson to the chase. This resort in the Indian Ocean has started taking guests for daily submarine adventures.

The resort in question is the Conrad Maldives Hotel on Rangali Island. The resort has acquired a three-seater submarine and has started conducting daily tours under the ocean waters.

Built by Nemo Tauchtouristik in Germany, the submarine that will be frequenting the waters around Rangali Island can dive to depths of nearly a hundred feet (98 feet, to be precise). But don’t worry about getting drenched underwater – not that you should be worrying be worrying about it at all – the craft is designed to keep you warm and dry. Plus, you can look out through the three glass pods that offer a 360-degree view of the underwater paradise. I suppose it helps that the submarine is orange with white stripes, resembling a clownfish.

The daily tours being conducted by the Conrad Maldives are 30 minutes long. A trained submarine pilot will steer the craft to the depths of the Indian Ocean, guiding two passengers through the waters of the South Ari Atoll, a popular snorkeling and scuba diving destination. These waters are home to beautiful coral reefs, multi-colored fish, sting rays, sea turtles, sharks and more. The charges are $280 for one person and $495 for a couple.
