If eco-tourism is your thing, eco resorts must be top of your list. Plan a luxury vacation to Panama this summer, where the Coral Lodge eco resort is offering over-the-water bungalows. Set in the midst of nature, guests at these family bungalows will have access to coral reefs, virgin beaches, tropical rainforests and so on.
The over-the-water bungalows, or palapa casitas, are breezy thatch-roof bungalows spread over 650 square feet. Inside, there is a bedroom, two baths with step-in showers, a Jacuzzi, a living space with a sofa-cum bed, a sitting room with a glass floor, a sleeping loft and a balcony with a double hammock. The entire space is air-conditioned. Desires Hotel International, which owns the Coral Lodge, has plans to introduce larger versions of these bungalows with space for six people.
From July 2011, these over-the-water bungalows will start being let out to the public. The low-season rates are in effect from 27 April to 31 October, so you can book the place before peak season rates set in.
Among the activities that you can indulge in from the doorstep of your bungalow are snorkelling and swimming. You can also head to the San Blas Archipelago to view one of the top ten best preserved coral reefs in the world. You can also go kayaking, or hiking through the rainforests. Coral Lodge is prime location for spotting animal life. Within the rainforests, you can spot howler monkeys. In the waters, you will find corals, sponges, barracudas, parrotfish, nurse sharks, mantas and more. Plus, the eco resort is a fine example of how sustainable practices and eco-development can blend in with luxury.
