Gold and Platinum Tattoos Gaining Popularity in Dubai

Tattoos have become all the rage nowadays. And well, jewellery was always a rage. So when you combine the two, you get (fashionably awesome) squared. No I mean seriously, how cool would it be to have a gold tattoo! Where to get it? Where else? At the most luxurious hotel in the world, Burj Al Arab. The place will house UAE’s first gold and platinum tattoo shop from next week. The concept of these bejewelled tattoos emerged in Japan, where 99 percent gold and platinum foils were applied on the skin, and the whole application process takes around 10 minutes only.

These tattoos are called Precious Skin (indeed!) and were created by Japanese designer, Nobuhiko Akastuka in 2006. This process was just confined to the Japanese market and was brought to Dubai by Arnaud Flambeau, managing director of Flambeau Luxury Trading DMCC. He said: “It’s like jewellery for the body, but it’s also fun. The tattoo is like a second skin and very comfortable to wear. They are ideal for weddings, parties or special occasions.”

The starting price is AED200 for a small gold tattoo and AED400 for an equivalent platinum one. But bridal and bespoke ones start at $500. These tattoos have become quite popular with Dubai’s sheikhas, and taking cue from this there are also plans to set up shop in Saudi Arabia as well.
