Andy Warhol was one of the most important artists of the last century and he was responsible for many of the changes that took place in the world of art, cinema and music. he was responsible for gay and homoerotic paintings achieving mainstream success, and also to inspire singers and musicians like Nico.
He was the one who initiated pop art, and shocked the traditional modernists who found his paintings unacceptable at that time. Known for his almost colourful lifestyle and art, his paintings are worth millions of dollars and hardly ever sold. His “Big Campbell’s Soup Can with Can Opener (Vegetable)” is now up for sale at New York’s Christie’s sale. It is expected to fetch up to $50 million.
It was painted in 1962 and was known for its figurative value. Andy usually glorified everyday objects such as the soup can here in this case. 11 of these soup cans were painted during his lifetime, and they stand to be one of the most important in the history of pop art. Christie’s Contemporary Art sale will also see other artists like Roy Liechtenstein.
His “Ohhh… Alright…†is expected to fetch almost 440 million. If you love art, make sure you are there to at least see these amazing paintings in real for a few minutes in your life.
