To make it big and enjoy it with full gusto, you first have to start from scratch. Ward Kelvin, a creative designer, is a living example. He has been designing stuff for big names like Tiffany & Co. and Ralph Lauren. In fact, the fans of the much coveted ‘Golden Compact’ collection by Estee Lauder should know that Kelvin’s the one actually behind the spectacular range. This was fun to know but what made the man a huge hit with us was a little fact about his career start. Believe it or not but he actually started out as a toy designer and even worked on the Happy Meals toys for McDonald’s.
And now that Kelvin has turned jewelry designer from being a toy expert, he feels that the two job profiles are not much different as both require a vivid imagination. And now he presents to the world his first personal collection titled American Chinoise. This one carries 40 brilliant jewelry pieces that translate modern lives of the 1930s with great panache. Each item allows a lot of space such that the one wearing it can enjoy the feel of freedom.
Precious metals like gold and platinum along with precious and semi-precious stones like diamonds, peridots and Mali garnets have been used in the collection. The price tag is seriously big. The Bamboo Cuff above sells for $20,450. You can check out the collection at Bergdorf Goodman and Neiman Marcus from April onwads.
