If you love your luxury handbags and just cannot get enough of them, this bit of news should warm your heart. The Digital Luxury Group recently joined hands with the Luxury Society to create a World Luxury Index for handbags. The Digital Luxury Group deals in digital communication strategies for luxury brands, while Luxury Society provides a wealth of business information and connections to top luxury professionals. As for the World Luxury Index, it ranks and analyses the most searched for luxury brands on the international level. With the introductions now done, let us focus our attention on the ten luxury handbag brands that made it to the World Luxury Index.
10 Handbag Brands That Online Searchers Love
The team that created the Index for high-end handbags studied over 130 million online searches across more than 130 brands in eight countries. The data was sourced from Demandtracker’s report for the twelve months between April 2011 and March 2012. The countries covered include emerging nations like Brazil and India as well as traditional markets like France, Italy and the United Kingdom. The handbag brands that ruled the roost included the following well-known international names:
1. Coach
2. Louis Vuitton
3. Chanel
4. Gucci
5. Longchamp
6. Prada
7. Hermes
8. Mulberry
9. Marc Jacobs
10. Michael Kors
Luxury Handbag Craze Across The Nations
There is some surprise over Coach being the topper on this list. But the other names on the list seem far less surprising. Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Prada and Hermes are the usual suspects for the top 10 list. However, the World Luxury Index for Handbags did not stop there. The index also highlights the reigning craze for luxury handbags in the eight countries that were covered. Under the headline, “Countries With The Highest Luxury Handbag Affinity”, the World Luxury Index studied the number of handbag searches per 1,000 internet users. (Note: Higher searches does not necessarily translate into greater handbag sales or a higher number of luxury handbag buyers.)
The study found that the Brits are the most handbag-crazy, with 422 per 1,000 internet users searching for luxury handbags. The United States of America came in second with a figure of 315. Italy and France were practically neck and neck with figures of 196 and 185. The emerging nations of Brazil and India occupied the last two spots.
Online Searches And Iconic Handbags
The World Luxury Index also ranked three iconic handbags that internet users searched for the most. The Hermes Birkin ruled the roost, becoming the most searched for iconic model throughout the world wide web. It appeared that users in the United States searched mostly for Orange Birkins, while those in the United Kingdom and Italy searched for tan and black models respectively.
Next up is the Louis Vuitton Speedy, a handbag model that is very popular in the United States and European countries like Germany, United Kingdom and France. According to the report, the Brits prefer this popular model in its iconic monogram canvas while Americans make a beeline for the damier canvas azur.
Finally, there is the Chanel 2.55, a big hit in the United States, where the favorite color is gold. Searchers in Italy prefer the beige models while users from the United Kingdom go for silver.
