The Nygard Cay Beach Resort in the Bahamas has clinched the title of the most expensive beach resort in the world. This property is owned by the Finaland born, Canadian millionaire Peter Nygard, who has made his fortune by making women’s’ clothing. His resort is a hit with the rich and famous, with the guest list including big names like Robert De Niero, Oprah Winfrey, Sean Connery and even former US President George W. Bush. The price tag that fetched this resort the ‘most expensive’ badge is quite hefty at $42,000 per week. But the owner has made sure that this exotic abode in New Providence, Bahamas is worth every penny.
The experience is soaked in luxury from the get go. The owner has a private Boeing 727, which guests can use to come to the Nassau International Airport, from any part of the world. Once they reach they are whisked away to the resort on a limousine or a Hummer, whatever the guest’s choice. If you want to laze around, there are two pools and a jacuzzi for that. If you are in a sporty mood, you can enjoy a game or two playing tennis or volleyball. Since you are at the beach, fishing would be an excellent idea. Guests can hop on one of their three specially designed fishing boats to catch a treat for dinner. At the end of the day they can relax and watch a movie their 24 person capacity movie theater.
Built in 1987, this 150,000-square-foot compound was partly damaged in a fire in 2009 but has been restored to its original sheen after a $50 million renovation. The resort has been inspired by the Mayan civilization, and its influences are seen all over the campus. One of the highlights here is a massive hall with a 100,000 pound glass ceiling.
