Many of the jewelry designs showcased at Baselworld 2011 have had us girls swooning. One of the latest hits at the luxury watch and jewelry fair was a collection by Turkish jeweler Gurhan Orhan. The recently unveiled collection comprised of high-end bronze jewelry designs. However, in true Gurhan style, his bronze designs were combined with 24K gold.
The Turkish designer is known for his unique vision for jewelry. His designs are typically a mix of colors and metals. Gurhan may have started with only gold jewelry. However, the rising prices of the metal convinced him to bring out a more reasonable silver line. The silver line was launched two years ago. And 2011 has seen Gurhan turn to bronze for inspiration.
The inspiration for the collection came from the artifacts at an exhibit entitled “Afghanistan: Hidden Treasures from the National Museum, Kabul”. Gurhan had been commissioned to design jewelry for the same exhibition at the Met Museum. As far as craftsmanship goes, Gurhan’s bronze jewelry are not created from bronze sheets. It is cast in bronze for a more distinctive appeal.
In the picture above you will see a bangle bracelet crafted from green turquoise and 24k gold on the extreme left; in the middle sits a 24k gold and patinated bronze cuff; and on the extreme right is a 24k gold and patinated bronze bangle. The price points for the three are $6,600, $11,200 and $5,300 respectively. The Turkish designer’s wife and business partner Fiona Tilley admitted that this is a precursor of the line that Gurhan will soon bring to Las Vegas. There is more to come on this front.
