It has become a trend to load the Emmy nominees with gifts and freebies. Gift suites abound in the days leading up to the awards ceremony and stars, writers and producers of TV’s top shows are being showered with gifts and luxury freebies. The HP Touchsmart Gift Lounge saw a lot of activity as the stars who came to the Nokia Theatre to rehearse for Sunday’s ceremony were requested to visit the lounge to take away notebook computers and other gifts from HP. The computer and printing hardware company topped it by making a donation to the TV academy’s nonprofit foundation for each celeb who visited their gift lounge.
David Boreanaz, the star of the popular series Bones visited the HP lounge with his family in the morning and was among the scores of stars who were handed over bedazzled toasters, sneakers made from recycled plastic water bottles, designer sunglasses, Centrum vitamins, Nautica watches and a $700 hair dryer. HBO Luxury Lounge was another popular destination for the stars. They had set up their gift lounge in Four Seasons hotel across town and had taken up several rooms to accommodate the expected crowd. LL Cool J, Loretta Devine, Matthew Weiner and veteran actress Cloris Leachman were some of the prominent names that visited the HBO lounge.
Being at the Four Seasons Hotel had its advantage. The guests could retreat to a mini spa, where L’Oreal provided manicures, makeovers, hairdos and hot shaves. And while they waited to emerge with a new look they could sip cocktails inspired by HBO shows such as “True Blood” and “Boardwalk Empire”. HBO also handed over a range of gifts including handbags, headphones and even high-end baby strollers from UppaBaby. There was jewelry from Fiori, leather handbag from Brahmin, headphones from V-MODA and footwear from Michael Antonio Shoes. GBK Tic-Tac Gift Lounge located at W Hotel also saw a lot of action.
