The mankind has always been fascinated by the future whether it’s been philosophers, writers and scientists, of course. Sci-fi fans intend to take it to an all new level altogether. Retro-futurism is the form that is the current favorite with both geeks and connoisseurs. And if you have the moolah (apart from the zest, of course) then you must definitely check out the Shipwrecked Submarine Home Theater.

A fascinating concept, this one is really the play room of Wayne Eyre (no relation of the famous Jane Eyre) who went on to spend a huge $100,000 on this submarine complete with plutonium-leaking torpedos.

Apart from the sci-fi razzmataz, the theater features the best in equipment as well as furniture. A whole set of reclining chairs are at your disposal as you set out to enjoy the three-meter big screen TV with an ultimate surround sound system that emit sonar and ocean sonds throughout the 12-meter by 5.5m room. On the base of custom wood, a spray of concrete and paint reminds of rusting steel beams while the melted plastic sheets give the impression of bent steel.

We know that China is known for inventing weird gadgets and gizmos but this submarine built by a regular inventor deserves a look. Tao Xiangli, a 34 year old amateur inventor built himself a submarine all on his known without taking any help or guidance from anybody else. Although he claims that he is just an amateur who likes to invent small things for himself, his invention of this submarine pretty much shows that this guy is way too talented to be just an amateur inventor.

Apparently, Xiangli spent two years and 30,000 yuan, which is approximately $4,385 for this individual project. The submarine is driven by electric motors and propellers. It also has some extra fixings including a periscope and a depth control tank. This is quite amazing and appreciative to actually have carried out this unique project all by himself.

However, it’s not too sure as to how far and deep this submarine can move. Nevertheless, I would like to try this submarine once (only if Xiangli assures me that I will be safe and not drown). I wonder what Xiangli will invent next, probably a personal airplane or a yacht.

The exploration of underwater terrains may be a dream for most people, especially because of how expensive  submarine can be. However, it may not remain a dream for very long if this Russian company mange to achieve what they desire to do.

Marine Innovation Technology has designed a submarine which can be powered mechanically by two people. Powered by pedalling, the two seater submarine is extremely cost effective making it affordable for a large number of the population and the simplicity of handling also means that driving this underwater vehicle will require no training. two average persons can keep the submarine going for at least four hours, with the vehicle running at a speed of 2-3 knots. On surface, it can hit speeds of 2-5 knots.

The underwater vehicle can travel up, down, forwards, backwards and also hover and rotate. Its transparent body would offer a 360 degree view. Testing is currently underway but if this finally hits the market the vehicle will be available for $30,000 to $70,000 which is extremely low for a submarine of its size.

 Tom Perkins is a lucky man. Not only does he own the luxury yacht, Maltese Falcon, he now has a personal submarine do go along with it. The submarine, Deep Flight, is designed like an aircraft to ‘fly’ underwater.

The two seater submarine doesn’t have ballast tanks and is designed to dive by the push of the forward speed. Built by Hawkes Ocean Technologies owned by Graham Hawkes, the Deep Flight can travel to a depth of 400ft at a speed of 5 knots. It is also made to imitate aircrafts and can do ‘tricks’ underwater- the Deep flight can do rolls, loops and can ‘porpoise’ when it surfaces. The submarine is made from super-strong carbon fibre and has two cockpits, each offering 360degree view. It stands 1.6m high, 3m wide with wings deployed (1.4m with wings folded) and weighs 1,818kg.

The Deep Flight Super Falcon is powered by 7kWh lithium phosphate batteries at 48V and can travel about four hours on a single battery charge. At $1.3million it is quite an expensive toy for any man but Hawkes Ocean Technologies does offer another model which sells at $350,000.

The submersible has a length of 17 ft 8 inches, having a width of 12 ft 11 inches, and a height of 5 ft, 7 inches. It weighs a total of 4730 lbs, and has a life support of twenty four hours.
It is one of the most technologically advanced Submersible built till now. The company has not divulged any information whether they plan to open a manufacturing unit or will sell the patent to other companies.
