Yiran Qian from Germany has designed the Endless Warm, which is a cool cap that can be worn in times of winters. When the winter is really bitter, it would prick your ears and neck, with the freezing air blowing against your face. We can keep ourselves warm with jackets etc, but caps are not enough to keep ourselves warm.

The Endless Warm design comes with solar panels and it heats up your face so that you can feel warm and nice. It is a brilliant idea though it may not be appreciated by many. It could also be used in gloves by fitting the gloves with solar panels, so that when it’s cold, your fingers stay warm and comfortable. This is a mandatory product in cold countries of the north where temperatures drop below zero during winters.

I would have loved to have it for myself but unfortunately, it is still in a conceptual stage and it may never make it to the market, because usually people do not like to wear gadgets on their bodies. It would be interesting to see how this product would be perceived by the market and also by the manufacturers. If all that is positive, we can see the Endless Warm in shelves soon!

If the big bucks are in your wallet, buying a luxury car is really not much of a hassle. However, many folks find trouble housing their dream machines. Somehow, their hearts do not permit them to allow their high-end toy to be kept in the regular common folk-type garage with the rest of the common folk-type automobiles. And so, Holger Schubert developed the Design Driven, which is an award winning garage design.

Holger has kept a very minimalist environment in his garage which further heightens the dreamy aspect of the car parked in – it looks nothing short of a work of art. Spread across 1200 sq. ft., this one is not in the basement but it is situated on the upper floors of a 1953 ranch style home.

You can expect it to be full of features that will delight you anyday. Not only there is a wide space for the car but also an open area for a couch. Again, the 42 solar panels remain active on the roof. Also, the electric screens on the window exterior help control climate within. The garage is not just about the comforts of the car alone as it stacks in a slide-away LCD TV, a built-in bookshelf, kitchenette, bathroom along with a library. There is remote-operated steel ramp that creates a slope so that your car can be moved out without the need of ignition. How about moving in with your car?

If you were wondering what is happening in the league of luxury sedans, you must actually hear about Toyota Prius. Surprisingly, it has been fitted with a solar power roof which would help save energy and save environment. This is very important in times of global warming when most of the pollution is caused by cars and emissions.

All you would need to do is spend 1,450 Pounds and you could convert your Toyota Prius into a solar powered efficient car that would not only look good but would also be an environment saver. I would say, it would have bee only good if all the luxury cars come with solar panels on the top of their roofs.

That way, all the sun in this world can be made use of instead of wasting energy for air conditioning. If only the same solar energy could be used for running the engine it would have been much much better. Nevertheless, it is a good move and a step in the right direction.

Richard Gryzch got really tired of going to the gas station to fill his bike every time. In fact he started hating it so much that he decided to mod a bike himself to run on solar and electric power. He also was not convinced of the idea about going to get a cool electric bike already available in the market.

His modded bike comes covered in solar panel and can reach a speed of about 90 miles per hour. It also has a range of 50 miles which he plans to increase to 300 miles. It is not clear of the bike is 100 percent solar but it certainly is a great a bike and looking at the way it works, we can say that it is really green and eco friendly.

I guess it is always nice to mod our own bikes instead of spending a lot of money on them, and buying something off the showroom. There is no information about either the price or availability.

The great mind behind this portable device is of architect Kari Sivonen. The manufacturing of the product is done by Clothing+, an established Finnish company having a maintained portfolio in delivering rational clothing. But this invention has hit the market a bit late for the mountaineers who are already there and are regretting the technology drawbacks that doesn’t allow them to charge there dead batteries of phone and camera.

PHOTON is displayed at the SAUMA, a travelers’ exhibition by the Finnish Cultural Institute in New York. A single stroll at the exhibition will put you across numerous (more than 20) innovative and modern designs from Finland.

Venue: Los Angeles Architecture and Design Museum
Date: Till 28 August, 2007

From LA, the exhibition will move to Helsinki and Paris in 2008.
