mauboussin Mauboussin Gave Free Diamonds Away For Marketing Strategy

Recession might seem like one big joke to those in Tokyo. Well, we don’t mean to only refer to the 12K yen that government shelled out per person in Japan to aid in the financial crisis, but also to the marketing strategy adopted by French jewelry store Mauboussin. Believe it or not, but as part of the launch of its new store in Ginza, the brand gave away 5,000 diamonds for free.

Each diamond was worth 0.1 carat with a cost of $55. This strategy was used to encourage people to invest in luxury gems during the hard times. But we do have serious doubts about the finances of a company who is offering diamonds like promotion cookies.

hitoma-11 Hitoma Portable Tea Room from Japan Brand Pop Up Shop

In this fast moving world, everybody needs a break to pamper oneself once in a while. One thing that attracts me the most at the moment is Hitoma. It is a gigantic portable tea room and it has the ability to transform any ordinary room into the perfect tea or meditation retreat. We often neglect to focus on medication as we are too occupied with our daily routines.

Hitoma is originally dispatched from the Japan Brand Pop Up Shop and is currently available at NYC’s Felissimo till 30 May 2009. Besides the latest fashion accessories, kitchen props and home decor, which come straight from Japan, Hitoma is the centre of attraction. Hitoma literally signifies a room that is used to promote a time and place for relaxation. It is built using Kishu timber. It is a high quality cedar from the city of Gobo.

Elite Find of the Day: Atelier OPA Designs Kenchikukagu Mobile Furniture

Kenchikukagu Mobile Furniture

Those who still consider Japan as a hub for electric productions only shall revise their opinion. The rationale is the mobility touch that seems to have influenced Japanese markets thereby inviting prospective consumers. Called the Kenchikukagu, it is the designer range of mobile furniture coming from the house of Atelier OPA based in Japan. The Kenchikukagu series incorporate a mobile work station, a mobile bed and a moible kitchen. Out of all, the mobile bed gathered my attention as it can be pleated when not in-use. It sports a small work space with a lighting touch that can appeal no less than a masterpiece, if installed in an office. Designed to ease your working, sleeping and eating habits, the designer mobile furniture are way beyond those virtual concept designs as are available for sale on Amazon Japan for JPY 800,000(about $7436 US).

Kuma Teddy Bear Phone for Pampered Kids

Kuma Teddy Bear Phone

Expectant mothers cannot settle at anything less curious for their babies and hence keep on making efforts to gather random stuff that may invite the attention of a newly-born kid. And if you have noticed then each of piled up collection gets converted into phone, enabling mothers to let their month-old baby talk to his dad, who is at work. Replacing the pretentious phone figures of stuffed animals or plastic fruits, here stands a designer teddy bear from Kuma with functionality of a mobile phone. Exhibited at the 2008 Good Design Expo by cellular provider Willcom, the Kuma phone sports a SIM card inside similar to that of a standard phone model and can store up to four speed dial numbers (one for each paw-squeeze).

The incoming calls in this phone model are well identified by the vibration produced by it, and can be ended (after answering) by riveting the bear’s tail. The Kuma Phone is hopeful to invite wealthy eyeballs and make a visible sales by selling off each model for $500.
