Japanese company Ginza Tanaka have just launched Summer Cool, a gold mug which costs $50,000. It is made of about 85 grams of gold and they also have wine glasses and a golden fan. However, one would be most impressed by the Golden Mug which breaks all barriers to drink beer.

Elegantly rich people can now sit back and enjoy a drink of beer in a 50k mug, which may not really sound sane if one thinks further. Come to think of it, recession is driving people crazy and they are even spending the last bit of money they have. Perhaps it is the death instinct.

The Tokyo Tower symbolises Japan’s fight for survival and their grit and determination to become the best since their fall from power and the pain the country suffered during the World War.

The Tokyo Tower is taller than the Eiffel and stands at 333 metres. In celebration of the tower’s 50^th anniversary, jewellery company Ginza Tanaka has produced a 24 carat gold replica of the Tokyo Tower. The imitation is size specific and also includes the Foot Town shopping and dining centre constructed between the legs of the tower. To gold replica, Golden Tokyo Tower, weighs 5kgs and is intended to be sold as a souvenir for 50million yen ($510,000).

The shimmering 24k gold tree is adorned with 240 jewels of pearls and diamond hangings among others. Weighing at more than 21kgs, the tree is worth a staggering £1 million. On the other end of the spectrum, the Durham tree was so pathetic that that it has been called a disgrace by the residents.

Local councilor Joan Maslin is being hounded by complaints by residents who claim the tree is depressing and has been pushing people towards a foul mood instead of making them cheery. And yet, this is the season of loving and giving and singer Natasha Hamilton was glad enough to light up the tree and perform in front of it.
