Glitz and glamour always take the center stage during any naming ceremony of luxury cruise ship. SC Magnifica was no exception in this regard. The beautiful luxury ship was recently christened by Hollywood legend Sophia Loren. The 75 year old evergreen beauty donned a floor-length black gown. She was joined by Italian singer Eros Ramazzotti and Greek singer Nana Mouskouri who also attended the glamorous ceremony.

MSC Cruises was the official hosting company for the evening. The firework display arranged by them complimented the ambience largely. SC Magnifica deserved the beautiful ceremony in every sense for the ship is just so luxurious. It has one of the largest retractable roofs that covers one of the four pools. The ship is 293 meters long and 32 meters wide.

You can enjoy your drinking sessions to your heart’s content in one of the 17 bars and lounges. There are four restaurants for you to dine. When you want to catch up with a movie, you may do so as the ship has a 4-D cinema. There is a mini bowling alley and a spa as well. The facilities sound just so tempting and make it hard to resist. I am already dreaming of spending my summer holidays in it.

Luxury cruises are gaining a rather consistent popularity in the European seas. And when that just started, the MSC Splendid made a rather bold, loud and extravagant foray into the world of sea travel. The most grand-daddiest moment of all was the presence of actress Sophia Loren at its sail from Barcelona in July 2009 that spoke quite a lot about it being a special boat.

Now quite some time has passed since the sail of this opulent, luxury liner, but the truth is that the world still hasn’t heard much about its little feats. Its maker claims that the MS Splendida is perhaps the most gorgeous cruise ship in the world. The passegners experience the special European-Italian feel in the plush interiors. There are five swimming pools, 12 whirlpool baths, 18 bars and several lounges with a discotheque with some crazy music.

Such a tremendous claim is substantiated by a whole staircase being decorated with Swarovski crystals worth $2.8 million. Even the grand piano shines with the sparkle of 20,000 Swarovski crystals. Each of the 99 suites here have their very own marble bathrooms with a full size bath, fluffy robes and slippers, Egyptian cotton sheets, memory mattress, pillow menu,complimentary  mini-bar and a delightful personal butler. Boy, now who’s gonna top that!

If Titanic was here, it would have loved to meet its competitor ‘Celebrity Solstice’.

Titanic had a capacity of 3,547 passengers and crew, this one has a lesser capacity- 3000 passengers, but claims to have extra ordinary features. It is 315m-long as against Titanic’s 269.1 m. But if you ask me honestly, I would say that Titanic is still a better innovator. Imagine, Titanic was launched in 1912 and, the facilities it had!! Amazing! Having said that, let us give the due credit to ‘Celebrity Solstice’. It is the first to have real grass on its lawn. That would be a great support to people who fall sea sick looking at miles and miles of water. What,s more, you can even go for your bare feet morning walk on the grass!

This U.S. cruise ship will be officially launched some time in November this year, giving a huge challenge to other liners that have suddenly become so puny in comparison to this giant. Honey mooners! Keep track of this one to make your date life time memorable.

Under the deck, there are four en suite guest cabins. Measuring 140 feet 11 inches, she has a room for a squad of six. Listed through Edmiston, the yacht is retailed at 14.95 million euros.
