The all upmarket Barrett-Jackson luxury car auction in Scottsdale last week raked in more than $ 68 million in one week, a 11 per cent rise from its last year’s event. A Barrett-Jackson auction is enviably one of the biggest car collector events of the year looked forward to by collectors, sellers and admirers alike.

Among the biggest hits were a 1964 Shelby Cobra Roadster, which sold for $478,500, a 1963 Shelby Cobra Roadster that went under hammer for $401,000, and a 1935 Cadillac Fleetwood Imperial convertible, which went for a $302,000. The number of collectors who attended the event was pegged at 1,200.

Interestingly, the costliest of the lot was not a car. It was a 1929 Hamilton Metalplane vintage plane that sold for a whopping $671,000. If not for flying, it’s surely for flaunting in the backyard of some millionaire!

With an upbeat event such as this that is so dependent on the weather factor, there was some speculation on if bad weather which caused some jitters in the form of a powerful storm, would mar the event. Despite all the anxiety though, the Scottsdale event went on without a hitch.
