Diamond Jubilee, the Most Expensive Whisky Bottle to Cost $200,000

There have been a series of commemorative releases for the 60th year of the reign of the British Queen. The whisky makers of UK have also jumped on the bandwagon to introduce the most expensive bottle of whisky. Johnnie Walker unit of Diageo PLC has released a limited edition of Diamond Jubilee whisky made from a blend of whiskies distilled in 1952. The premium whisky will be unveiled at the month-long Master of Spirits II event organized by the luxury travel retailer DFS Group which is part of the luxury conglomerate LVMH. DFS is launching a series of events this year starting with Singapore.

The vintage whisky has been bottled in a crystal decanter. The bottle with silver trimmings comes with two crystal glasses and a leather-bound booklet. For buyers in Britain the bottle has been priced at 100,000 pounds which is equivalent to $159,100. However, the same bottle has been priced at Singapore $250,000 for the event which is equivalent to US $198,500. Singapore, the largest port city in the world has the largest concentration of millionaires. The entire Asian region has witnessed a boom in wealth in recent years and it has resulted in a growing appetite for luxury goods including spirits.

Harold Brooks, president of global merchandising at DFS is very clear in his approach and wants to showcase all brands and their uniqueness. There are 85 items on display including Dom Perignon Reserve de L’Abbaye 1978, Chateau Cheval Blanc 1986 Imperial and Luzhoulaojiao National Salute.

This is not the first time that Singapore is seeing such pricey whisky. Last year a Chinese businessman spent S$250,000 on a bottle of rare 62-year-old Dalmore single malt at Changi Airport during the previous Master of Spirits promotion.
