It was decided many alien centuries ago when my lifestory was being writ by a bored and sleepy angel that alarm clocks and I would never be able to become good friends. This annoying little typo (or call it what you wish) means that I never reach anywhere on time. It’s not really the clocks that I hate but the irritating noise that they make.

The ocarinas are flute-like musical instruments from thousands of years ago and the Chinese and the Mayans still fight over which tribe designed and made music over the first ocarina. Perhaps, we’ll never find that out but we do know that the present day ocarina was designed by a gentleman from Italy. Still, no youngster would know what the hell an ocarina is if it wasn’t for the Legend of Zelda.

The ocarina increased in demand after the duck-shaped musical instrument found its way into the Nintendo game and suddenly all the game obsessed youth started hankering to own one. It’s no wonder then that the ocarina has surfaced yet again, and this time it is certainly not in the virtual world. The iPhone Ocarina, as it is being called at the moment since no one is sure of its actual title, appear to be an ocarina made out of 3 iPhones. Instead of holes, as you would find on a traditional ocarina, this strange instrument shows eight buttons that would control the pitch.

There isn’t much information about this strange gadget except for the fact that it made its first appearance at the MAKE Japan  meet. Then again, others claim that this isn’t an ocarina but is the iPhone Sax made by Junpei Wada. Ah, who do we believe?

If you’re like most everyone else then you have probably come home from college or work after such a hard day and looking forward only to getting a good night’s sleep before having to get back in the rat race the next day, and then found you couldn’t sleep. Or you probably find yourself waking up from your sleeping in a couple hours, not half as rested as you ought to be.

So, what do you do? Popping those Valium pills won’t help any, not when you need a more permanent solution. The LightSleeper, designed by Kate Evans, started out as a student project while Kate was in college and having trouble falling asleep. The interesting device projects a light onto the ceiling of the user and following the light’s circular motion across the ceiling purportedly induces sleep. Apparently, falling asleep by tracking the movement of the light would only take a few minutes.

The reason why the Lightsleeper works is that the simple action of tracking the moving light relaxes the mind and this is necessary for the individual to fall asleep. This is like having your very own hypnotist and only just for 125 pounds!

What do Leica and Hermes have in common? Great photography delivered in style, of course! The rumours of a Leica M7 Hermes edition had been around for some time and it turns out that they are all true. Leica UK has announced the release of the Leica M7 Hermes Edition and the images of the camera that have been doing the round are of the real thing as well.

It had earlier been reported that only 100 units of the uber luxe limited edition camera would be made but the latest reports and the official statement by Leica comes with the good news that 200 units of the camera would be made available. Designed after the Leica M7 model, the Leica M7 Hermes limited edition will include certain features not included in the previous model. This luxury model features metal finish back finished with silver chrome and have AUTO and flash settings matching the camera’s leather. Two colour models are available, one in green and the other in a vivid psychedelic orange.

The Leica MP Edition Hermes that was launched a few years ago had created a great much enthusiasm a few years ago and this second tie up between Hermes and Leica will certainly not disappoint avid fans of photography. The Table of Sound, as it is aptly named, has been shortlisted among the 150 lucky and deserving ones alongside 3,500 other participants. The design is created by a team called Wondering Boys. So go ahead, plug your MP3 player wirelessly.

It is sleek, stylish. Yet, in a surrounding with classic colours or jaded interiors, it can blend away into the walls and floor. It can connect to any device around your living room wirelessly. It has a built-in dock. On the contrary you could also use a regular mini-jack connection.

Upload your various credit card details in this. On the other end is a knob that lets you choose the right Card you must swipe. It involves no paper receipt.  All your information gets stacked in the memory card. The hitch Will banks comply in networking, especially when they compete with each other? For credit card users it is a Godsend.

In some strange way, designed by artist Soomi Park, the LED eyelashes have been intended to compensate `Asian women’s’ desire for bigger eyes. It is rather unlikely that wearing LEDs instead of the delicate eye-lashes would enhance the size of eyes at all. More so, would women really go in for something so artificial even if their urge to get bigger eyes is strong?

An effort of this nature would have been appreciated if put up in an art gallery as a strong statement the artist wanted to express, or to depict an out-of-box theatric character. It looks too far-fetched take it beyond a Halloween party, the least as a statement of beauty.


The lashes are attached to a tilt sensor so when you tilt your head in specific directions, the lashes light up. Sounds toyish, somewhat like those kids’ shoe lights that glow with a noise when they walk.
