The competition is on to make the world’s most expensive SUV. Wolfgang Dürheimer, the head of Bentley Motors, believes that the top end luxury SUVs offered by BMW, Mercedes and Land Rover are cheap and aimed at the mass market because in terms of pricing they all end before hitting £130,000. He calls it a problem that he aims to solve. He confirmed that the new SUV his company is working on will definitely cost more than that. The new model is expected to go on sale in 2016. However Bentley is not the only luxury auto maker who is active in this segment but there are other players who aim to create a super luxury segment right at the top. In short, the bar is being raised.
Currently the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S, Range Rover Autobiography Long Wheelbase and Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG are the SUV models that are ruling at the top end of the segment. In terms of pricing the new Bentley SUV will be more expensive as experts believe that it will be priced at around £150. Bentley had first unveiled this concept at the Geneva Motor Show in 2012. The automaker has since confirmed that it has changed the design in response to customer feedback. The new Bentley SUV is set to be made at the firm’s factory in Crewe, Cheshire.
The new SUV from Bentley will become the most expensive SUV in the world but not by a big margin. The company is obviously aiming to maximize the volumes despite the high price tag. However, the reign of the Bentley SUV as the most expensive SUV might not last very long as Rolls Royce is also working on a similar vehicle. Experts believe that their offering will be priced at £200,000 and will become the claimant to the title of the world’s most expensive SUV. Watch this space as the competition hots up right at the top of the SUV market. If you want exclusivity and prestige, it will obviously come at a price.
