A Good Deed by a Homeless Man Results in an Outpouring of Support

A good deed can have a major impact on your life and Glen James, a homeless man experienced it first hand to his pleasant surprise. It is an inspiring story as Glen had no ulterior motive while doing the good deed and that’s why he was almost ‘shocked’ when it completely changed the course of his life. Being a simple but big hearted man Glen is grateful to all who have come forward to appreciate his good deed. The story is apparently very simple. Glen discovered a bag in a Boston mall last month filled with a passport, $2,400 in cash and nearly $40,000 in traveler’s checks. He didn’t even think twice before turning the bag immediately to the police so that it could be returned to its owner.

Glen James Receiving the Citation

Online Fundraising Campaign has Collected $150,000 So Far

Glen thought he had done his duty as a citizen and that it was the end of the story but the subsequent events surprised him to say the least. Boston police honored James with a special citation for what he had done despite his desperate financial condition. But what surprised Glen more was that Ethan Whittington, a complete stranger in Midlothian, Va., moved by the story decided to set up an online fundraising campaign. The funds will be put under a trust which will work towards helping Glen and others like him who need help and support. The fund has grown to $150,000 at the time of writing this report.

The Incident has Changed Glen's Life

The Incident and Subsequent Events have Overhauled Glen’s Life

Whittington and Glen had not even met till last week. They met last Thursday and thanked the other for his inspirational and selfless work. It has been heartening to see the increasing support to the fund. The supporters of the fund are also working on helping Glen to get a new home near his sister. His life has been practically overhauled. He had never imagined that this could go this far. He just can’t stop thanking everyone around him for their kind support. It is incidents like these that make you believe in the philosophy of Karma. Truly, if you do your duty the results are bound to follow.
