Most Expensive Shoe Has a Price Tag of £276,237! I think I’ll Wait For The Sale

The prize for the most expensive shoe in the world goes to New Zealand designer, Kathryn Wilson’s ‘the Diamond shoe’. Embellished with almost 21.18 carats of diamonds, this shoe is priced at a staggering £276,237! The shoe that last held the numero uno spot but has now become the second most expensive shoe is British jewelry designer Christopher Michael Shellis’ sandals made from gold and diamonds, which was almost half the price at £140,000. Here is a list of 15  most expensive shoes ever auctioned.

Considering the surgeon like precision that was required for this kind of piece, Kathryn painstakingly attached the white diamonds to the shoe one by one using tweezers and a special kind of adhesive. The whole thing took more than 50 hours! To help her in this arduous endeavor was Sarah Hutchings from Auckland’s Orsini Fine Jewellery company.  The Kathryn Wilson shoe used was actually black, but they painted it white to add more impact. She then marked out the designs and patterns with pencil. After which she calculated the amount of diamonds, lace and other embellishments required for this bejeweled shoe.

Considering the value of the shoe, they actually had to have two security guards at the gate while Kathryn and Sarah worked.  The piece has been placed in a smash proof box for its upcoming showcase.  The shoe has been made for a noble cause, which is the charity auction for Ronald McDonald House. It is a children’s hospital network, which cares for families whose children are being treated.

Creating extravagant shoes is usually the niche of Christian Louboutin. They created sparkly ballerina pumps with 8 inch heels. Needless to say, nobody wore them. Another equally absurd creation was the Sky Heels, with heels so ridiculous, even Lady Gaga wouldn’t dare wear them. However, there were also more saner offerings on the market like the Day2Night Convertible Heels or the cute Crystal Heels.
