Model cars can be as expensive if not more expensive than the original car. Bonhams is bringing another precious model for auction. It is precious because it is carved out of precious stones and precious metals. It is a replica of the Green Black Prudhomme Dragster, a Chrysler 392. However, the record holder for the most expensive model car is the miniature Lamborghini Aventador which was valued at $4.7 million which was many times over the actual cost of the luxury car. What Bonhams has managed to do this time is to bring a precious model car which is modelled on a car with a rich history which in its own way will add to the value of the miniature model.
The Model Has Been Created by Carving Solid Panels of Ruby
The Green Black Prudhomme Dragster, a Chrysler 392 became famous for its racing record and its association with the noted driver Don ‘The Snake’ Prudhomme, the builder Kent Fuller and the tuner, Keith Black. The model being offered for auction is very-very special as it has been created by carving solid panels of ruby. The man and the brain behind this model is designer Luis Alberto Quispe Aparicio. The designer has been at his creative best and carved the tyres out of obsidian. Gold vermeil has been used for the engine, wheel and some chassis components while rock crystal has been used to create the windscreen.
Beginning in June 1962 the Car Won Most of Its Races for Two Years
The experts believe that the history of the car will drive its value at the auction. The original car is currently owned by collector Bruce Meyer. Originally the car had gained fame by performing exceptionally well in the drag racing circuit. Beginning in June 1962, the car won most of its races for two consecutive years. It topped its 8 second run at the speed of 190mph. The car was also red at the time as it was painted in its team colours. The model of the car will go under hammer on May 21 at the Bonham’s Minerals & Lapidary Works of Art sale. I will not be surprised if the price it fetches at the auction surprises the experts and far exceeds the pre sales estimates.
