The Breva Génie 01 is no ordinary watch. It lets you measure the altitude, the temperature, and can also predict the weather, apart from telling the time ofcourse. But this watch is going to cost more than most people’s annual salary! At $150,000 a piece, this very high end watch isn’t for us lesser beings. But there is however, no dearth of people out there who can easily shell out that kind of cash. Brad Pitt is one who comes to mind. He bought the most expensive Patek Philippe watch last year for a whopping €260,000!
For those of us who aren’t multi-millionaires, can opt for a nice Casio watch like its PRX-2000T model featured on our website a few years back that can also measure the temperature, pressure, and show the magnetic north. Its cost? Around $1,000.
So what is it that makes this watch 150 times more expensive than its Casio counterpart? Well, for starters it is coated with white or rose gold. It is also handcrafted, making it a work of art. Only 110 pieces have been made in this very limited, ‘limited edition’ watch series. There are 55 pieces of the 18k white gold version(150,000 Swiss Francs) and 55 pieces for the 18k pink gold one(145,000 Swiss Francs).
The dial includes a tiny chamber that expands or contracts based on the barometric pressure, which in layman’s terms means that you can predict whether it will rain or not. Its power reserve indicator tells you how much power is left in the mainspring. And then there is the indicator for telling the hour, minutes and seconds.
While the Casio one looks cool, the skeletonised dial of the Breva Génie 01 is definitely more sophisticated. Its makers, watch movement designer Jean-Francois Mojon and the manufacturing company Chronode should be proud. I wonder what else they have in store for us.
