1962 Ferrari 250 GTO Could Become The Most Expensive GTO, 50 Years After It First Hit The Streets

The first Ferrari 250 GTO hit the streets in 1962, and fifty years later, it could very well be the most expensive car in the world. Even after all these years, it still hasn’t lost its charm. Infact if its mind blowing prices are considered, its value has actually appreciated over the years like wine. This vintage Ferrari is in top shape and has been fetching prices well over $20 million in the past few years. In June, a car from this series fetched a jaw dropping sum of $35 million. But the most expensive GTO spot could now carry a price tag of $41 million.

A red model of the 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO has been put up for auction at Anamera at this price. But the actual sale could be at a higher rate but we may not be able to know it for sure as this will be a private auction, not an open one. The car is currently owned by Ed Classic of the United Kingdom, and is in top shape. The interiors are completely black, and come with a five-speed manual transmission. It is a left-hand drive version fitted with a 3.0 litre V12 engine capable of producing 300hp. Only 36 cars were made of this Series 1, making it one of the rarest GTO series.

You don’t have to be a car aficionado to realize how gorgeous this piece of machinery is. If this car fetches the listing price, it will definitely take the top spot for being the most expensive GTO till date. Just to give you an idea of how expensive this car is, the most expensive car currently available in the market is the Bugatti Veyron Super Sports, listed at $2.4 million, which seems a measly sum in Ferrari 250 GTO’s comparison.
