This is perhaps the only time when you will drink and get high, literally! Glenfiddich is conducting the world’s highest whisky tasting event on the Everest Base camp. Sounds adventurous enough to give you an adrenaline rush. But this is an adventure with a cause. Titled ‘Walking with the Wounded’ the expedition aims to raise funds for defence personnel who were wounded in wars and conflicts. The organisers have selected wounded defence servicemen who will trek to the highest peak in the world.
A brand synonymous with luxury and meant only for the elite, the makers of the finest single malt whisky in the world are also keen philanthropists. This is not the first time that Glenfiddich is a supporting a cause. In the past they have been actively participating in promoting certain causes and fundraising. The limited edition ‘Glenfiddich for Haiti’ victims raised funds for those affected by the massive earthquake that rattled the country in 2010. The Janet Sheed Roberts Reserve premier whisky edition was dedicated to the 110 year old granddaughter of the founder of William Grant and sons distillery.
Walking with the Wounded
Walking with the Wounded which will help you “find your Everest” Glenfiddich’s only charitable cause which comes with a lot of thrill and excitement. To reach the summit, Glenfiddich has enlisted four mountaineers and adventurers from Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Island. Each country will be represented by one participant.
The expedition team will also include two wounded servicemen one of them being Manindra Rai, a Gurkha who was wounded in the Afghanistan war. Together with a guide, the four adventurers and men from the forces will take on a journey of a lifetime. On their sojourn, they will be overwhelmed by the breathtaking and spectacular peaks of the Himalayas. The team will also interact and mingle with the local populace inhabiting this mighty and inhospitable terrain.
For their expedition, the team will be provided with a hand crafted leather bag. The bag will contain everything that is required for this very challenging trail.
At the end of the journey, the adventurers will be invited for a whisky tasting and nosing event which will be held at the base camp. This will be the only whisky tasting and nosing event that will take place on the highest base camp in the world. To give everyone a taste of the excitement the event will broadcasted live online all over the United Kingdom. The event, which aims at acquainting the Himalayas with the taste of the Highlands, will be held in a Scottish themed Glenfiddich Yurt.
What a way we say to honour these wounded officers known for their valour. The expedition also will encourage those who are keen mountaineers and explorers.
