We see the tag of ‘world’s most expensive’ attached to a lot of things like watches, sunglasses, cell phones but a culinary delicacy wasn’t expected to feature in that list. We have spoken about world’s most expensive potatoes and burger earlier today it was the turn of this luxury mince pie. The £3,000 worth mince pie is the most expensive one ever made and is currently put up for display at London Shopping centre.
The pie is made up of a mix of traditional ingredients from recipes dating back to the 17th century. It has now gone on the display at The Exchange shopping centre and will be given away in a prize draw. The list of exotic ingredients include the highest-grade platinum leaf, holy water from Lourdes to bind the pastry and wash all the ingredients, vanilla beans and cinnamon from eastern spice markets. Besides this, there is the highly prized ambergris sugar derived from sperm whale secretions. There is also the hallmark content i.e. the solid Platinum coin in keeping with the British tradition of placing a silver coin in a Christmas cake or pudding.
The guy who made is Andrew Stellitano who runs a food design company Astarism and it took him over ten days to make this exclusive mince pie. The pastry top was designed on the computer and with a help of laser cut, the intricate finish here was delivered. It has a mix of traditional ingredients from recipes dating back to the 17th century. It has now gone on the display at The Exchange shopping centre and will be given away in a prize draw. The prize draw will open on December 19 and the lucky shopper will be able to take this sweet treat home.
