Europe Shows the way to Glamping, Camping with a Touch of Glamour

The increasing awareness about our ecology and environment has made the travelers more conscious about the type of holiday they choose. Camping with a touch of glamour or Glamping is becoming a popular option. Now you have eco-friendly pods or igloos that are designed to provide most luxurious comforts. The eco-dome sites have already come up in Europe and made glamping a reality. Gloucestershire is home to the Dome Garden which features 10 domes. This camping facility is located right in the heart of the Forest of Dean.

The domes at the site are fully self contained and measure up to 24 feet (7.5 m) in diameter. They have been designed to accommodate a family of up to six people. The domes are quite sturdy and are totally wind and water resistant. There is an innovative insulation system incorporated in the domes. The heat in the dome is driven down into glass boxes under the floor by a solar fan that keeps the dome warm and cozy at night. The Dome Garden is open through the year and four night’s accommodation during the week costs about $500.

Les Cerniers in the Swiss Alps offers a novel resort Whitepod that boasts of 15 domes pitched on wooden platforms. The domes in the resort feature a wood-burning stove, organic luxury bedding and full service bathroom. The amenities in the resort depend primarily on renewable resources. The resort has taken several sustainable initiatives to make it as eco-friendly as possible. The resort provides access to private ski slopes. The prices at the high end resort starts at about $437.
