Kate Spade Owner Puts New York Penthouse Up For Rent

There are no two ways about it. New York luxury real estate is expensive. So when you hear about a 12-room penthouse located in downtown Manhattan, bargain prices are probably farthest from your mind. The penthouse in question is no ordinary luxury home either. It is owned and furnished by Pamela Bell, one of the four founders of the popular Kate Spade brand.

The property is currently up for rent. But interested parties will have to be well-heeled individuals with deep pockets. Otherwise affording the monthly rent of $18,500 will become difficult. The house is located at 215 East 12th Street, just south of Union Square. The prime location is certainly a factor in pushing up the price. As it is luxury estate rentals in New York are almost unfailingly high-priced deals. Bell herself purchased the property for $4.3 million back in 2007. So she is going to be looking for a good return on her investment.

Among the selling points of this prime New York penthouse are Bell’s stylistic touches. As you walk into the 19th-century home, you realize Bell’s design and décor skills are top-notch. How else would she be one of the four designers behind the Kate Spade name? Bell has maintained much of the original flavor by retaining the original windows, hardwood floors and arched doorways. But she has introduced a contemporary flair to this high-end home.

This is quite a rambling penthouse by New York City standards. Plus, it has a good-sized garden as well. This luxury rental home may not suit every budget, but it is sure to get the attention of the city’s high-fliers anyway.
