Quartz was a revolutionary find for the watch making industry, but unfortunately it became the technology for mass producing watches and over time became synonymous with cheap. One has to realize that there is cheap quartz and there is high end quartz. Breitling is one of the few watch makers who continually bring out high end quartz movement based timepieces that has a fairly large fan following of its own. Aerospace watches have been the mainstay of the Breitling quartz watch collection. But their new Colt watch is quartz movement based but not digital, somewhat like the Porsche sports watch.
Colt line was not always a quartz movement based watch but this new development indicates that from now onwards the Colt watches will be quartz. It will surely give the line a new identity and new fans. The new collection of Colt watches consists of three styles. A 33mm wide women’s model, a 44mm wide three-hand, and a 44mm wide chronograph. They all come with Swiss ETA quartz movement which is high end thermoline sophisticated quartz movement. These movements are much more accurate than your standard quartz movements.
The designs are typical Breitling done in steel. The bezel however is different and simpler and somewhat diver in style. The dial design is also interesting. The hands are very proportionately done. The watch is water resistant for 500 meters for the three-hand models, and 300 meters for the chronograph models. The watches are also COSC certified Chronometers. The watches in the new Colt collection are available in three dial colors – black, silver, and blue.
