Porsche Design Adds Style to LaCie Storage Devices

Porsche, the luxury brand is prone to add some style to most unlikely of things, like a hard drive. It is perhaps their way of reaching out to and connecting with a wider fan base who admire their designs and products but are unable to afford them. Porsche is teaming up with hard drive maker LaCie to bring some style to storage devices. They have done it once before in 2003 and needless to add the experiment was rather successful. Porsche will be offering two different lines to take care of all the Desktop Drive and Mobile Drive needs.

The P 9230 is for home use and is available in both 1 TB and 2 TB capacities. P 9220 is for mobile use and comes in three sizes of 500 GB, 750 GB and 1TB capacities. For the moment they are available only in the Porsche Design Stores. The hard drives have a very solid, brushed aluminum and minimalistic look. There is a very small opening for the LED light that indicates that the device is on. There is a port on the back that connects to the computer’s USB port.

Both 2.0 and 3.0 connectivity is possible. Computers that are 3.0 enabled can experience transfer rates of up to 5 GB per second.La Cie has sweetened the deal by adding 10 GB of the cloud-based secured backup storage service Wuala for free. The drive for mobile use has a very compact design that is easy to travel with. It has a matte finish that makes it easier to keep clean. The drives are likely to become available, by the holiday shopping season, with mass retailers like Best Buy and Amazon as they are expected to sell in large numbers. The prices start at $105 for the 500 GB Mobile device.
