Harrods Invites Top Designers to Create 18 Cakes to Commemorate the Royal Wedding

With less than 24 hours to go for the most anticipated Royal Wedding the whole world seem to be in the grip of the wedding fever. The best part is that everyone is celebrating it in his own way. The mood is celebratory and no one wants to miss it as there is a paucity of enjoyable moments today with the economy struggling to get out of recession and major natural disasters making the road ahead that much more difficult. This Royal Wedding has come as a boon for people who haven’t had a reason to celebrate for some time now.

We had reported about the Lancashire-based Colin Bleasdale who is making the most expensive and exotic ice cream to celebrate the Royal Wedding. Now Harrods, the famous luxury department store based in London is celebrating the big wedding with an exquisite collection of tiered designer wedding cakes. They have put up a meter high designer cake in each of their 18 widows in the store at Brompton Road. The display was launched on April 26 and will be there for all to see till April 30, 2011.

These are not a collection of wedding cakes but created especially for the occasion by designers who were invited by Harrods for the purpose. All the 18 creations were especially commissioned by Harrods from designers who have special standing in different fields like fashion, fine jewelry, food and interiors. They have all given their special touch to the cake as you will see a hand painted cake too. Cleef & Arpels, Richard James, Lalique, Jo Malone, Escada, Paul Smith and Wedgwood are some of the big names who have created a cake each. You can very well imagine that the appearance of the cakes would be stunning and their design quotient will be very high.
