What’s a wedding without extravagance? Swarovski certainly agrees. The Austrian crystal giant has created a bejewelled wedding cake that is sure to set your mouth watering and your eyes aglitter. The giant wedding cake has been decorated using as many as 500 Swarovski crystals. And standing atop the highest tier are crystal figurines of a pair of blue and green birds.
This masterpiece of a cake is being housed at Signorini Villa, located in the southern Italian town of Herculaneum. The crowds are going gaga over this bejewelled work. The occasion is bridal exhibition Bride Villa, now into its fifth edition, which is being held from 4-6 February.
Designed by well-known pastry chef Laura Aguglia, the Swarovski-studded wedding cake is the result of 36 intensive hours of work. Assisted by her mother Heidi, Aguglia worked painstakingly to great this magnificent masterpiece. Aguglia has five separate degrees in cake design. A glance at the ingredients is enough to send one spinning. 200 eggs, 12 litres of milk, 8 pounds of sugar, 8 pounds of flour, in addition to 12 pounds of chocolate and 5 litres of cream went into the making of this masterpiece. This humongous, record-breaking masterpiece was then decorated with 500 crystals, plus the two crystal birds on top. Aguglia described the cake as a sort of love nest for newly-weds.
The cake will be on display from the night of 4 February and will be tasted on 6 February. Wondering how much this glittering wedding cake costs? It is worth 6000 Euros (about $8,178).
