The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance to Organise the 50th Anniversay Celebration of Ferrari 250 GTO

The legendary Ferrari 250 GTO was built between 1962 and 1964 and we are approaching the 50th anniversary mark soon. The Foundation has been working on the anniversary celebrations for over two years now as it would be a very important milestone in the automobile history. The Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance will celebrate the 50th anniversary of the legendary Ferrari 250 GTO at its 2012 event.

The track record of Amelia has clearly set it apart from other Concours and their approach in creating the celebratory events seems to be the most effective and successful. The recent examples have been the 40th anniversary of the dominating Porsche 917’s victories at the 24 Hours of Daytona and Le Mans endurance races. More often than not they present the celebration in a seminar format, but what really makes it interesting is the participation of the original actors of the event and their never heard first hand stories and anecdotes.

There is a tendency to organise a celebration before the actual year it occurred in just to be the first to do it but it diminishes the historical value. An international show must stay true to the original dates and keep them alive for history’s sake. There is a $5 discount available on ticket purchased in advance for the 16th Annual Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance.
