Strawberry’s Sports Grill Opens in Queens With a Grand Party

Darryl Strawberry, a former professional baseball player has launched a new business venture of his own. Perhaps his brief appearance on ‘The Celebrity Apprentice’ inspired him so much that he has now opened a restaurant in Queens, New York. Called, Strawberry’s Sports Grill it opened with a lavish opening party with several big name celebrities gracing the occasion.

Justin Timberlake, Whitey Ford, current Yankees Nick Swisher and David Robertson, Ali Fedotowsky of the Bachlorette and Miss USA Rima Fakih were in attendance at the grand opening party. The interesting aspect of the décor of the restaurant is that there are a lot of sports memorabilia including Strawberry’s Shea Stadium locker from his Mets days and two World Series trophies.

Evtan Sugarman of Southern Hospitality has partnered with Strawberry for this venture. And predictably the menu includes some of the Southern delights such as a house smoked BBQ Brisket, cornbread, collard greens and crawfish and cheddar hushpuppies. It is a comprehensive menu with large separate sections for burgers and desserts. There is an adults only dessert menu which features ice cream topped with fruit puree and liquor sauces. Strawberry plans to be a very hands on owner and will stick around fir the first six months to keep an eye on things. It is bound to be a great learning experience for him.
