Dennis Conner buys a spectacular yacht from the days of yore

In a world where more and more superyachts are coming into the high seas, Dennis Conner is going back to the golden past. He has bought the BB Crowninshield-designed gaff schooner ‘Fame’, a 40ft (12m) beauty that has won numerous Great Lakes races. Hence we see a deadly combo of beauty with the specs to boot.

Many classic yachting enthusiasts from the USA consider her to be something close to perfection in the world of sailing vessels.  The boat has undergone a lot of wear and tear as it has been sailing Lake Michigan for the past 15 years. Hence the yacht would require some work. Thanks to this, Conner was able to get a cheaper deal than usual and bought the yacht for just $17,000 (c £12,000).

He plans to give her a much needed makeover and replace the worn out parts. Conner also hopes to get her ready and sailing by this summer, which happens to be her centenary year. The well canvassed Fameis is likely to be an exceptional day-sailor and a strong competitor to other yachts in her category at San Diego’s Ancient Mariners Sailing Society races. Well we wish her luck!
