Luxuriously Rare Rolex Cosmograph Up For Auction By Sotheby

One of the most famous and expensive watch manufacturers, Rolex, now has its legendary rare creation, a Rolex Cosmograph in the hands of the prestigious auction house, Sotheby, that will putting the rare watch on auction at Sotheby’s’ Important Watches sale in Geneva on May 9th, 2010 and the Rolex Cosmograph is expected to be sold for $110,000.

This one of a kind piece of art was manufactured in the year 1985 and is features the classic Paul Newman style chronograph with white face and black subdials for constant seconds, 30-minute and 12-hour counts. As per Sotheby, the reason for the increased importance of this watch is that, it is very rare to find a Paul Newman Cosmograph in such pristine condition and that too with an original green sticker on the case back.


The Rolex Cosmograph, which is also called, the Daytona comes with a cal. 727, manual winding nickel lever movement and is studded 17 jewels. Furthermore, the Daytona which will be put up for auction will also be carrying its very own presentation case, along with a certificate of authenticity.

  • That is a very nice watch. Is it worth $110k though? I’m not too sure about that. There are a lot of very nice watches out there, including Breitlings, Mont Blanc, Tudors, and Cartiers. Although that Rolex is quite rare, it is actually quite plain and I really don’t think it warrants that price tag. I’d prefer to buy a nice Breitling AS WELL AS a Range Rover to go with!
