The pricy Dunton Hot Springs is one of the most expensive get-aways. It is located in the serene and quiet vasts of the Colorado, away from the main city. Though it is the prerogative of the affluent, but that does not stop it from being every skier’s paradise!
This hotel is of modest 8,600 sq ft and is located in the sublime San Juan Mountains. Thanks to the Germans who revived this dying property back in 1970s and turned it into a plush hotel. Located on the West fork of the Dolores River, it promises you to give a breath-taking view of the frozen river.
Until the late 90’s this hotel was akin to the haunted hotel in the movie ‘The Shinning’, it had no telephone lines and no network coverage. They used radio transmission to communicate with the ‘outer world’.
This resort caters every occasion, be it a family reunion or a corporate meet. Most of the cabins have their own hot springs and for the rest, there is a large communal pool. It includes a library, a spa, a bath house and all the luxuries which you could have never imagined to be present in this deserted hotel. Now comes the pricy part, for each night it charges around $10,000 – $17,500!

I have been to Dunton myself, and it is amazing. I must say though, the rates you have on here are for renting the full town of Dunton. Two guests can stay for a much more affordable rate. I think we paid somewhere around $600 per night for two of us, and this included all of our meals, which were outstanding!
