Visiting the moon and finding out what kind of cheese it is made from is every child’s dream. Growing up, one realises how unlikely it is that that dream would ever come true and searches for more realistic ways to make their astronomer dream come true.

The Bonhams Space Sale offers an opportunity for all of us to make our dreams come true by getting a little closer to the Moon. This isn’t accomplished by giving us our own spacesuit and a ticket to the Moon but the Space Sale will auction off pieces of lunar history on the 16th of July this year. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of the first Moon landing, Bonhams will be auctioning items that were possessions of astronauts or related to lunar missions in some way.

Items up for auction include a colour photograph of the first 7 astronauts which is estimated at $600 to $800, a model of Saturn V estimated at $10,000 to $15,000 and the Apollo 11 Lunar Landing Sequence estimated at $125,000 to $175,000. The Space Sale which marks four decades of Neil Armstrong’s landing on the moon is being held in New York.
