Glance Beyond Limits: Contact Lens

contact_lens Glance Beyond Limits: Contact Lens

Celebrated Leonardo Da Vinci evolved the very idea for a contact lens back in 1508! But it was not until in the late 19th century that the first lens was developed. Since then the technology has steadily progressed. One of the major breakthroughs was back in 1999 when the first silicone hydrogels contacts were brought in to the market. This made the disposable extended wear day and night lenses available.

Extended wear contacts have risen in popularity since they were launched. The idea of being able to wear the lenses all day without having to remove them for the night is very appealing. Even though these lenses were available back in the 80’s it’s not until recently they have risen in popularity. Before these types of lenses were seen unhygienic and people wearing them had a significant higher chance of getting an eye infection than those wearing regular lenses.

Today however these lenses are much safer and a lot of people are enjoying the fact that they can go to bed at night and then wake up the next day without having to insert and new pair of lenses. Before buying these kinds of lenses you should talk it over with your optician/eye doctor since they differ a lot from regular lenses.
