Iranian Painting at Christie’s

Iranian Painting

In the array of paintings available for auction, Iranian painting is a new deserving candidate. International Christie’s Auction house has scheduled an auction of a ‘Saqqa-khaneh’ (drinking-place) painting by an unbeatable Iranian painter Hossein Zenderoudi on 31 October.

The painting is expected to fetch $140,000-$180,000 as a part of Christie’s “International Modern and Contemporary Art” in the Jumeirah Emirates Towers Hotel in Dubai. The artwork acted as a great impetus for Zenderoudi’s enlightenment of the holy Qur’an, published in 1972. It bagged the year’s UNESCO award for being the most beautiful book published ever. Otherwise, the artist has won numerous awards at the Venice, Sao Paulo and Paris biennials.
