Rothschild Faberge Egg to Generate $18 mn at Christie’s Auction

A Faberge egg that was made for a top banking dynasty has been discovered lately. It is expected to fetch up to $18 million (13 million Euros) in its scheduled auction at Christie’s International’s Russian winter auction in London next month.

The egg was an engagement gift to Baron Edouard de Rothschild in 1902 by Peter Carl Faberge. Its unique cockerel decked up with diamond pops out flapping its wings after every one every one hour and shakes its head while the aperture and closure of its beak.

This ultra-exceptional masterpiece features a clock and mechanical figure and is festooned in pink and gold. Designed by the Russian jeweler, Faberge produced only 50 eggs for the Russian royal family. Word is around that besides this he created 12 eggs of similar standards for his private clients.

The Rothschild egg is set to be auctioned on 28 November and is eyeing bulky bids from affluent Russian business people based in London. If the sale of egg is able to generate the expected amount then it would mar the previous record set by of $9.6 million set by Faberge’s Imperial Winter Egg in 2002 at Christie’s.
