Furious Clan Ends Auction of 10,000-Year-Old Meteorite Chunk

Meteorite Chunk

Identified as the U.S largest and World’s sixth-largest meteorite, this 15.5-ton Willamette Meteorite was discovered in 1902 in Oregon. And today 105 years, it has become a debatable issue. Days back this piece was all set to be auctioned at Bonhams auction house on 28 October 2007, then what is the issue?

An American Indian group is offended by the intended sale of the piece of the historic Willamette Meteorite. The group is raising eyebrows over the rock’s holy implication being disregarded by putting this Meteorite for auction, thereby inviting highest bidder.

But still, any guesses of the highest bid that this Meteorite would have generated if the auction would have continued?

History

Story roots back to billions years of history, when the meteorite surfaced from the iron-nickel core of a planet to our celestial orbit. It was due to the two succeeding shocks amidst exploding with other planetary wreckage that one of the collisions fell on the Earth, perchance 10,000 years ago from mow. This final form of the meteorite is due to its long-term endurance of the humid climate in the Pacific Northwest.
